LUNCH BUNCH, February 12, 2013

We had 23 classmates and friends today for lunch at the VFW on a beautiful, sunny, 47 degree day.  We ate in the large private room instead of in the bar area, which worked out much better for our class.

Cornelia very graciously gave the blessing for us.

We were happily surprised that Nelson and Carolyn Lanning were able to be with us today.  Nelson looks great with 20 less pounds, but his 5 day stay in the hospital turned into 15 because of complications.  It was definitely a difficult period of time for both of them.  Nelson has a new heart valve, and is still having home health care visits.  This is the first day he has been out of the house.  They both said to thank everyone for the get well cards.  Both said it really helps to know that people care when you are going through something like this.

Jerry and Sue Richardson were unable to attend today since they both have very bad colds.  Sue said to say "Hello" to everyone.

It was nice to see Melanie and Ed Sterling.  We talked about Melanie's young brother who passed away at 49 and all the problems he had been dealing with over the years.  Our sympathy goes out to the entire family.

Melanie shared with us a picture of the plans for the new hospital being built onto Bethesda Hospital.  Good Sam will be torn down after the new addition is finished at Bethesda.

Gerald Roberts was unable to be at the lunch today.  He had a low BP episode on Friday or Saturday evening when getting up to have another piece of pizza, and passed out hitting his tailbone as he landed on the floor at home and breaking a rib.  Since he is unable to live at home by himself, his girls found a place for him at Cedar Hill Care Center in the Sterling Suites at 1136 Adair Ave in Zanesville, 43701.  He is having rehab there.  His biggest shock was the body brace he has to have that cost him $1500.  It was custom made for his body.  We signed two get well cards for him today.  Some of the Zanesville group will visit him next week after his pain is under better control.

If anyone has heard how Bill Thompson is doing at Cedar Hills since he broke his hip, please e-mail me at martcannon@aol.com  .  Thanks in advance.

Cornelia brought all of us a delicious chocolate candy wrapped in foil for Valentine's Day.  Thank you Cornelia!

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

1.  Valentine's day is this Thursday.

2.  Mini-class reunion will be held at the VFW on October 10 and 11.  Please reserve this date for us on your calendar.

“ I wonder how the book got to Guernsey? Perhaps there is some sort of secret homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers.” January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native o...more

I have read several books that Marlene has recommended and they have been excellent reads.

Enjoy.

Stay in good health until we see you next month at the VFW at 11:30.  Remember if the Zanesville Schools are closed because of bad weather, we will not be having lunch bunch.
