LUNCH BUNCH, April 13, 2010

It was a beautiful day to drive to Zanesville with lots of pear, redbud, and magnolia trees blooming.  Today was definitely delivered with Spring color.  We had a very good turnout although I didn't count how many classmates attended.  Pat and Jim Burkhart have returned from Florida.  We enjoyed having them back.  Anita Ropeter Coffey was here from McConnelsville, and Lois Havens had not been here for a while, so it was nice seeing both of them.  Bob Ross was having fun golfing today, and Chuck Pettry was out in his boat fishing.

PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE FOR OUR CLASS REUNION:

We wanted to repeat that our 55th Class Reunion has been changed to Saturday, October 16, 17 and 18 of 2010 at The Zanesville Country Club as was stated in the last lunch notes.  You should have received a notice which Gwen Curry has sent out to everyone.  If you did not receive a notice, please mail your address to Gwen at 2115 Moxadarla Rd, Zanesville, OH 43701.  You will be hearing all the reunion details as the committee completes the planning.  Gwen states that the committee would welcome your input if you have any comments or suggestions.

Sandra Geyer Miller mailed the Geyer-Miller Gazette to Lois Havens, and Lois kindly brought it in for us to see.  It was filled with family events of the last year with pictures of family members.  There was an article on "The Pig and I and other thoughts" and Sandra commented that she has always liked pigs.  There was a picture of her as a child holding a little white piglet.  Also the history of the mason jar was included in the family newsletter.  Thank you for sharing Sandra.

Sondra Hickman Philip volunteered to be responsible for sending a rose for our deceased class members in the Zanesville area only.  If you learn of a deceased classmate, please call Sonie at 740-674-4646 and give her the funeral home information.  Thank you Sonie.

Bill Factor spoke to us about "The Final Farewell to ZHS" which will be on Saturday May 22, 2010 at the ZHS gym and auditorium from 12:00 noon to 6:00 PM.  Please see the information at the end of the lunch notes for this historical event for us.  Gerald has volunteered to coordinate the volunteers for our table for a two hour spot.

Gwen read a poem called "I Said a Prayer for You Today" followed with the blessing.  We had a moment of silence for our two deceased classmates in the last month, Jane Peugh Caldwell, and Richard (Dick) Linn.  We express our deepest sympathy to both of these families.

We had a delicious lunch together, and at 1:15 Gerald Roberts held a meeting for the class reunion.  Gerald and Kinsey Tanner are co-chairmen with Melanie Sterling as secretary and other members being Jean Ross, Gwen Curry, John Power, Donna Iden, and Sondra Philip.  The rest of us stayed to give our input as well and we finished the meeting at 2:20 PM.  It was fun discussing things we could do for the reunion, and some of us stayed and chatted after the meeting.

In closing these notes, I would like to remind us all that since our last reunion we have lost at least 20 more of our classmates.  In memory of all those who have left us I am reminded of the ancient Irish salute:

May the road rise to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sunshine warm on your face, the grains flow gently in your fields.

And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

You will all live in our hearts all of the days of our lives.  As long as we are here on earth, you will not be forgotten.

I hope to see you next month at the Golden Corral on Tuesday, May 11 at 11:30 AM.
